COVID-19: Latest updates on paddling

CAN WE GET OUT ON THE WATER SOON?

We’re nearly ready to get back out on the water; as restrictions are beginning to ease, we intend to run two-weekend events at the back end of this year. August and September, with a couple of day river trips leading up to these.

It would be nice to run all our events, but we don’t feel it’s the right thing to do yet. Let’s keep looking forward to what next year holds, and hopefully, we can get all our events running again!

Please check on the latest updates on the BCU News webpage HERE if you intend to get out for a personal paddle.

WHAT HAVE WE BEEN UPTO?

Well, not a lot really, we’ve replaced some of the kayaks that we sold last year while still on the lookout for some others that may pop up for sale at a reasonable price. We’ve arranged to have Andy’s Courses down on our August weekend with his fleet of SUPs from Family SUP.

We will be ramping up soon, trailers to sort out and service, a big boat shuffle around the trailers, and hopefully sell some more of the kayaks we had for sale from last year. As mentioned in the last blog, if you’re after a suitable cheap kayak to enjoy on the canals and local rivers, let us know; we have several Dancers and Mirages available.

We’re just about to renew our BCU Affiliation for the year, a reminder that you can help us with insurance costs with your own waterways membership. All you have to do on your BCU profile is select a club you’re part of.

COVID AND NEEDING YOUR HELP

We are on the lookout for some coaches to attend our events, a covid officer and welfare officer. We’d also really like to get a content creator on board to help push along our socials, weekend photography, and maybe if we’re lucky, get some video and drone footage.

As with all volunteering roles, it’s a big commitment to give your time for free; we fully recognise being in the same position. We do, however, try to give something for your time. Weekend events are free to volunteers; we’ll use all our social platforms to promote any business, personal or professional, and run private weekends where all volunteers get to have fun without the chaos of looking after people. We also allow people to make use of our marquees for garden events when needed, though they do need to be looked after and returned in one piece.

Please get in touch if you could help and want to get involved; we need it now more than ever!

KEW T-SHIRTS

A reminder that we have t-shirts available to purchase through the shop. We’ll also have them available on our weekends.

We look forward to seeing you all out on the water!
